  • The Central Himalayan Environment Association, CHEA in short, was founded on October 2, 1981, on a day which has special significance for India, being the birth-day of the Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The society was registered soon afterwards in May, 1982. Arguably CHEA is one of the earliest societies founded in Northern India which had ' the environment and the livelihood of the people in the Himalayas ' as its core concern. more...

      • District level Van Panchayat workshop was held on 4th July, 2012 at Press Club, Bageshwar.

      • The project on promoting bamboo species under the project entitled "Exploring opportunities of livelihood for marginal community through demonstration and plantation and utilization of bamboo" funded by SDTT, Mumbai has been launched on 1st May, 2012 at two villages of Bhimtal development block of Nainital District.

      • Nainital, 20th April, 2012. District level Workshop on Van Panchayat was organized at Himalayan Botanical Garden, Narayan-Nagar, Nainital. Principal Chief Conservator Forest, Uttarakhand, Dr. R.B.S. Rawat was the Chief Guest of the event. In all 47 Sarpanch of Nainital district participated in the workshop.

      • Nainital, 19th April, 2012. Meeting of Van Panchayat District Coordination Committee was held at CHEA Head Office, Nainital. In all 7 district coordinators representing Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh and Pauri participated in the daylong meeting.

      • Nainital, 19th March, 2012. eNGO workshop was organised at Nainital to empower grassroots NGO/CBOs/SHGs with Internet technology & web technology with the support of Digital Empowerment Foundation

      • 15th March, 2012. NABARD Supported Financial Literacy Programme in Atal Adarsh Gram of Nainital District is in progress

      • October, 2011. NABARD funded Integrated Tribal Development Programme in Pithoragarh district is launched.

      • Workshop of Community Forestry Leaders (Sarpanch of Van Panachayat) was held on 23-24 Sep, 2011 at Lamgara, Almora

      • UNEP EPLC sponsored project entitled "Capacity building of Women Members of Village Forest Councils for Sustainable Management of Community Forests in the Indian Himalayas" is to be launched in November, 2011.

    • 26th May, 2012. Indian Mountain Initiative - Sustainable Mountain Development Summit - II was concluded at Gangtok, Sikkim. Earlier on 25th May, 2012 the summit was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. K.T. Gyalstan, Hon'ble Speaker, State Legislative Assembly, Sikkim and the keynote was delivered by the Dr. David Molden, Director General, ICIMOD, Nepal. This two day summit was focused on three main themes Water, Communities & Forestry, and Mountain Livelihoods followed by side events i.e. Mountain Cities: Rethinking Mountain Cities and Legislators' Meet on 'Climate Change and the Need for Legislation'.
